US Vice President J.D. Vance has said that holders of permanent resident cards, known as green cards, do not have unlimited rights to stay in the United States.
“A green card holder does not have unlimited rights to stay in the United States,” Vance said on Fox News.
“This is not fundamentally about free speech. Yes, it is a national security issue, but more importantly, it is about us as the American people deciding who can join our national community.”
Green cards give foreign nationals the right to live and work in the United States, but Vance stressed that residency is not a lifelong guarantee.
