Afghanistan’s national futsal team has been drawn into Group H alongside Myanmar and the Maldives for the qualifying stage of the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup.
The official draw ceremony was held on Thursday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with 31 national teams participating. Group H matches will be hosted by Myanmar, with the qualifiers scheduled to kick off in September 2025.
According to Mustafa Hashemi, spokesperson for the Afghanistan Football Federation, the draw places Afghanistan in a favorable position:
“Our national futsal team is facing relatively less competitive opponents in this round and is expected to deliver strong performances.”
Afghanistan’s futsal team continues to grow in regional stature. In the previous AFC Futsal Asian Cup, the team reached the knockout stage before being eliminated by Tajikistan. Despite the early exit, it marked a significant step in Afghanistan’s futsal development.
Moreover, Afghanistan made history last year by participating in the Futsal World Cup for the first time, which was hosted in Uzbekistan.
With growing experience on the international stage, Afghanistan is hopeful of advancing through the qualifiers and securing a spot in the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup finals.
