Afghan entrepreneurs who took part in the 9th International Kunming Trade Expo in China have voiced strong satisfaction with their participation, citing successful sales and promising engagement with international buyers.
The event, which ran for six days, welcomed over 1,400 companies from around the globe. Afghan traders were prominently featured, with 88 booths dedicated to showcasing Afghan products such as carpets, saffron, gemstones, handicrafts, and dried fruits.
Mohammad Omar, one of the Afghan exhibitors, shared his positive experience:
“Our booth had excellent sales—local Chinese shopkeepers bought in bulk. It was a highly productive event for us.”
Another Afghan participant, Mohammad Shafi, also praised the expo’s impact:
“It was a very successful exhibition. God willing, we’re also preparing to take part in the upcoming expo in Shenyang on the 25th.”
According to the Afghan Carpet Producers and Exporters Union, participation in international expos like Kunming is crucial for expanding market access and strengthening Afghanistan’s export sectors.
Abdulmanan Haidari, Executive Director of the Union, explained:
“Our members had the opportunity to attend two back-to-back expos in China. This has enhanced their ability to negotiate better deals, forge long-term partnerships, and expand their business networks.”
During the expo, Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Salam Hanafi reaffirmed Afghanistan’s interest in deepening commercial ties with China and other countries in South Asia. He emphasized the country’s strategic geographic position, stating that Afghanistan can serve as a critical trade corridor linking Central, South, and East Asia.
The Kunming Expo marks another step forward in Afghanistan’s international trade re-engagement, with Afghan businesses optimistic about future opportunities on the global stage.
