A new chapter of stability and dignity begins for returnees in Paktia province, as construction has officially started on 100 new houses in the Rabat refugee camp of Gardez city—thanks to generous funding from Qatari women exceeding $800,000.
At the project’s launch event, Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Salam Hanafi highlighted the government’s efforts in supporting returnees, stating that technical assessments, township designs, and land surveys have all been completed. Every returning family will receive a dedicated plot of land as part of a broader effort to build a sustainable community.
Hamidullah Nomani, Acting Minister of Urban Development and Housing, further announced the allocation of 2,000 jeribs of land in the province for this initiative. Of the 890 total plots, 416 are specifically reserved for larger families with five or more members, ensuring that those most in need are prioritized.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs called on neighboring countries to uphold humanitarian values and stop the mistreatment of Afghan refugees. Officials reiterated the Islamic Emirate’s readiness to assist in the dignified return of all Afghan nationals.
