The Herat Public Health Department has launched a joint capacity-building meeting aimed at improving healthcare quality in the province. The session, which brings together Afghan and Iranian doctors, focuses on advanced brain surgery, the diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases, and obesity management.
Ghulam Mohammad Hanafi, the deputy director of Herat’s public health department, emphasized the importance of continuous education for doctors to stay updated with the latest medical advancements. He believes that this conference, featuring methods in treatment, laparoscopic surgery, and brain surgery, will significantly enhance the quality of healthcare services in Herat.
The session is being seen as a major step forward in the quality of specialized healthcare services in the region. Local doctors such as Farid Ahmad Ejhar, a hospital director in Herat, highlighted the conference’s goal of standardizing healthcare services to ensure high-quality care for the community.
Iranian doctors, including Masoud Khani, remarked on the significant progress made in surgical techniques, with teams from both Afghanistan and Iran sharing expertise through joint efforts. Ahmad Tareq Azizi, an Afghan doctor, noted that new procedures being performed in Afghanistan, previously unavailable, are improving patient care.
The conference is taking place during a period when healthcare services in Herat have seen remarkable improvements, reducing the need for patients to seek treatment abroad. This initiative is poised to strengthen medical cooperation between Afghanistan and Iran, benefiting both nations’ healthcare systems.
