With a disappointing Ashes campaign behind them, Australia’s star all-rounder Ellyse Perry believes the England Women’s cricket team has the potential for a strong comeback under their newly appointed head coach, Charlotte Edwards.
England endured a winless Ashes tour in Australia, losing all seven matches across formats. The poor performance led to the resignations of head coach Jon Lewis and captain Heather Knight, signaling a major shift in the team’s leadership.
Despite the setbacks, Perry remains optimistic about England’s future. Speaking to Sky Sports, she said, “If you look at the class of that English team and the players they have, their best eleven is a formidable side.”
“I’ve got absolutely no doubt that they’ll be a very different team this summer in England, but also in the World Cup in India,” she added. “They’re a group of champions, and you’re always allowed to have some tough periods and challenges.”
Perry believes England’s recent struggles are more of a temporary dip rather than a deeper issue. “It was probably more of a blip than any kind of long-standing issue, so I’m excited to see how Edwards brings them back.”
Charlotte Edwards, a legendary former England captain, brings a wealth of experience to her new role. She led England to both the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup and T20 World Cup titles in 2009, and now looks to inspire a new generation on the world stage.
