Ryan Crocker, former U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan, has cautioned that the United States may be edging toward military action against Iran as tensions rise over Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.
Speaking in an interview with ABC News, Crocker noted that while no one wants Iran to possess nuclear weapons, President Donald Trump’s approach may leave little room for diplomacy. “There will be a take-it-or-leave-it. Iranians won’t take it, and bombs away. That is certainly in prospect,” Crocker stated.
He stressed that while the global consensus is against a nuclear-armed Iran, the potential fallout of a military strike could be unpredictable. “The consequences of a military intervention, as we have seen, can be very hard to calculate and even harder to guide,” he warned.
This comes as U.S. and Iranian officials prepare to meet in Oman on Saturday, with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi expected to attend, and Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi acting as intermediary.
