Nepal’s Under-19 cricket team ended their three-match youth ODI series on a high note, defeating Afghanistan by 85 runs using the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern (DLS) method in a rain-affected final at the Mulpani Cricket Stadium. Despite the win, Afghanistan secured the series 2–1, having already sealed victories in the earlier two matches.
Nepal opted to bat first and posted a total of 191 runs before being bowled out in 44.5 overs. Sahil Patel top-scored for the home side with a solid 46, providing a much-needed anchor in the innings.
In reply, Afghanistan’s batting lineup faltered under pressure. At 46 for 6 in 20.1 overs, their chase was in deep trouble when rain halted play. With the DLS calculation favoring Nepal, the hosts were awarded an 85-run win.
Afghanistan had previously dominated the series opener with a convincing 130-run victory and edged a thrilling second game by just one run. Though the final game went Nepal’s way, Afghanistan’s strong performances in the first two matches underlined their depth and consistency.
For Nepal, the final win was a boost in morale and showcased their growing potential at the youth level. The spirited fightback offers hope for the team’s future campaigns.
