In a recent speech at the U.S. Department of Justice, former President Donald Trump reiterated his stance on the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, claiming that if he had remained in office, the U.S. would have retained control over Bagram Air Base due to its strategic proximity to China.
Trump emphasized that the withdrawal, which he described as “the most humiliating time” in U.S. history, was poorly executed. He stated that under his leadership, the U.S. would have exited Afghanistan “with dignity and strength,” and highlighted the importance of Bagram, noting its location just an hour away from where China reportedly builds its nuclear missiles and weapons.
He further claimed that China now occupies the base, a statement the Islamic Emirate has previously rejected. Trump also referenced the controversial departure from Afghanistan, mentioning the abandonment of military equipment and even dogs left behind, calling it a “shame.”
Trump suggested that the manner in which the U.S. pulled out could have contributed to escalating global tensions, including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
These claims have stirred significant debate, with differing views on the impact of the U.S. withdrawal and the geopolitical implications of the region.
