Experts widely regard the Qosh Tepa Canal as a critical project for the future of Afghanistan’s agriculture, economic development, and water resource management. With the completion of the second phase excavation reaching 87%, the canal is set to play a pivotal role in the mechanization of agriculture, fostering industrial growth, and boosting food security.

In a recent meeting, Ataullah Omari, the Acting Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, highlighted the importance of efficiently utilizing the land surrounding the Qosh Tepa Canal. Omari emphasized that upon completion of the canal, organized industrial, agricultural, and livestock centers should be established to maximize its potential.

Misbahuddin Mustaeen, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture, also spoke about the meeting, noting that Omari had stressed the need for a well-planned implementation strategy to ensure the effective use of the lands along the canal.

Several experts have underscored the significance of this project for Afghanistan’s future:

  • Wasim Safi, the head of the Executive Board of the Chamber of Agriculture and Livestock, pointed out that projects like the Qosh Tepa Canal are crucial to the industrialization of agriculture, a move that will benefit the entire country.
  • Abdul Zahoor Madbar, an economic affairs expert, called the Qosh Tepa Canal one of the key infrastructure projects for managing Afghanistan’s water resources, expanding agriculture, and enhancing food security.

To ensure the canal’s success, the Ministries of Agriculture, Finance, Energy and Water, and Urban Development and Housing are working together on land allocation and planning the development of agricultural and industrial complexes around the canal.

Once fully operational, the Qosh Tepa Canal is expected to have a transformative impact on Afghanistan’s agriculture, making it more mechanized, productive, and sustainable.
